Cleaning Dog Car Seat Covers

Any dog owner who wants to ensure the safety of their pooch will want to think about purchasing a dog car seat, as it will protect the interior of your car. However, if you have avoided purchasing a dog car seat, then you should think about purchasing seat covers. The interior of a car can become dirty quickly when you have a dog. But, not only can dog car seat covers make the car seat appear much more stylish, it can also make it more comfortable for your pet. It is also necessary to keep those seat covers clean, so here are a few things that you should know about cleaning dog car seat covers.  

Remove the cover from the car seat and put it in the washer. You can wash it with regular laundry detergent, but keep in mind that this might not get the job done when it comes to removing the odor. This is one of the reasons that many people choose to add about ¼ cup of vinegar to the regular laundry detergent. It will either eliminate or lessen the foul odor. Keep in mind that you can also add regular liquid fabric softener to the washer. This will also provide the dog car seat covers with that ultra-fresh scent that you desire.

Many people do not feel comfortable washing their dog car seat covers in the washer. If this is how you feel, then washing the seat covers by hand might be a good idea. All that you need to do is fill up the bathroom or kitchen sink with warm water, add a bit of laundry detergent, and vinegar (if you choose). Allow the car seat covers to soak for fifteen to twenty minutes. Remember to massage the car seat cover together to help remove anything that may be embedded in the seat cover. Rinse and let dry.

Some people also do not feel comfortable placing the dog car seat covers in the dryer. You might even be instructed not to. The reason is because the covers may shrink and will not fit properly when you try to place them back on the dog car seat. Allow the dog car seat covers to dry outside in the sun or place them in a room on a hanger so that they can drip dry. If you feel the covers appear to be wrinkly after they have dried, put them in the dryer on tumble for about ten minutes to freshen up the fabric. Since the cover is already dry, this won’t cause them to shrink and they will still fit on the car seat.
